Open House at Carnew Community Care to mark 25th anniversary

11 Jun

(June 11, 2009) Carnew Community Care is celebrating its 25th anniversary with an Open House on Thursday, June 25.

“The Community Care and Day Centre is very much a team effort between the voluntary committee, the residents, the staff and the local community,” said Sr Mary Crosbie, manager at Carnew Community Care, which provides independent living for older people. “We’re issuing an open invitation to people to come and celebrate with us the unique spirit of integrity and belonging that characterises Carnew Community Care.”

In the afternoon, from 2-4.30pm, a range of activities will be organised, including the sale of new ladies clothes, and an exhibition of quilts from the Custom Field Quilters group. Visitors can loosen up with a Tai Chi session or relax during an holistic hand massage. Tours of the facilities will also be run and old photos from the Centre’s archives will be available.

That evening, from 7.30-9.30pm, an ecumenical service will be held with refreshments afterwards and a chance to meet old friends and to view the Centre’s old photos from the archives.

Carnew Community Care is an innovative and ground-breaking community village, spearheaded by the Daughters of Charity and occupying a central place in the life of Carnew. Today, 29 residents live in 28 houses and they are among the 200 people, including local residents, who avail of the health and wellbeing services at the Day Centre, including indoor bowls, physiotherapy, quilting, hairdressing, arts and crafts, daily lunch club and social afternoons.
